CVMR® (Texas) Hosts Historic Groundbreaking Ceremony with Amarillo EDC

On June 27, 2022, CVMR® (Texas) along with representatives from the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (Amarillo EDC) hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for CVMR® (Texas). This ceremony marked Amarillo, Texas as the site for the first environmentally neutral industrial-scale critical minerals refinery in the country.

“This is going to be the first critical mineral refinery ever built in the United States,” said Kamran Khozan, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of CVMR®. “Right now, we don’t have any such refineries in the United States. We are at the mercy of foreign countries to supply us with refined metals so, that’s what we want to do.”

CVMR® is a privately held, metal refining technology provider that is also engaged in mining and refining of its own mineral resources in 18 different countries. The company was established in 1986, with its head office and R&D Centre in Toronto, Canada. CVMR® is a world leader in metal powder production used in 3D printing, Metal Injection Molding (MIM), super alloys, complex net shapes, electronics, rechargeable batteries, manufacture of aerospace and automotive parts, medical instruments, pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements.

“Today history is being made in Amarillo,” said Kevin Carter, President & CEO of the Amarillo EDC. “The addition of CVMR to our city will have a tremendous impact on the local, national, and international level. CVMR is set to change the landscape of employment and business opportunities in Amarillo. This is the biggest project the Amarillo EDC has ever been a part of, and we’re proud to welcome CVMR to our great city.”

“Amarillo is synonymous with opportunity for business – we have low taxes and a workforce with a strong work ethic. Our central location and our community’s willingness to partner with businesses creates a unique season of growth and diversification for Amarillo’s economy,” said Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson. “This project is proof of that and Amarillo is anticipating the years of successful partnership it will have with CVMR.”

CVMR® (Texas) will be located on over 400 acres in CenterPort East [address]. The location incentive agreement (LIA) also includes a job creation incentive of $20,000 per FTE with an average annual salary of $97,000, over the next ten years. CVMR® (Texas) is set to hire 1,000+ employees for the facility, with the potential for more with additional phases at full completion, the total capital expenditure for the project is estimated at $1.5 Billion. CVMR® (Texas) would also develop a Center of Excellence for educational development, job training, research & development. In addition, the City of Amarillo and Potter County have approved a 100% tax abatement incentive for ten years, and the Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District is scheduled to consider the same proposal at their next meeting.

“I am thrilled to have yet another business come to Amarillo and Potter County. Growth and revenue are two of my favorite words, and we are achieving both with the addition of CVMR to our community” said Judge Nancy Tanner.
